The Forty-Nine Club - A Puzzle
by Caliban
The Forty-Nine Club was formed last year. Our not unambitious aim is: "To mold this sorry scheme of things entire."
Each of the members has his own code number. The code numbers are not consecutive, but are devised ad hoc -- by the "integration of three relevant components." My friend, Probe, for example, is No. 110; Dr. Calico, the Assyriologist, is No. 98; Mrs. Thwackstraw, inventor of cosmic psychiatry, is No. 207.
These data were offered to me when I accepted the club's invitation to join. "But before we induct you, Mr. Caliban," said the president, "I must point out to you that we propose to spell your name Kaliban."
WHAT IS MY CODE NUMBER?
from the ECO-M newsletter (predecessor of Braegen) of March, 1982, Chris Keck editor. Answer in April issue!

Mensa Scholarships
Local and national Mensa offer college scholarship awards based on essay competition. Applicants need not be Mensa members, and the awards are based solely on meeting the application form requirements and the essay.
The Mensa Education & Research Foundation (MERF) is a non-profit organization committed to the pursuit of excellence in the areas of intelligence. Click HERE for more info about MERF scholarships.
ECOM sponsors its own college scholarship award each year, too. Residents and students in the ECOM 14-county area (see above) are eligible to apply. Further details about the Karl J. Roden Memorial Scholarship to come -- use the MERF Scholarships link above to apply online from September 15th through January 15th each year.
ECOM's annual Fall scholarship fund-raiser is great fun and reputed to be one of the best in the country. There's also a year-round on-line book sale to support the scholarship.
